What Is Solar Neighbor?
Solar Neighbor is an award winning stop-motion animated short film crafted entirely with practical effects. (hand-sculpted characters, hand-painted skies, cotton ball clouds, etc.) It serves as the centerpiece of a larger multimedia art project that spans painting, sculpture, embroidery, clay work, and more. Showing at fine arts and crafts markets.
The film tells the story of a cryogenically frozen human launched into space to escape a terminal condition in an era without a cure. While in stasis, their home planet transforms, humans vanish, and new species rise. After a chance collision with an asteroid, the human returns to a now-unrecognizable world, awakening on the mysterious Mikinaak Island.
Solar Neighbor premiered internationally at the Bangkok Movie Awards, where it won Best Experimental Film, and had its U.S. premiere at the Indie Vegas Film Festival, receiving the award for Best Editing – Animated Short. It is currently screening at select film festivals ahead of its public release.
